Announcement – 5:54 am
Posted by: lazzo

If there were any doubts left that today was the day of Patch 3.3.2’s release, dismiss them now because the official patch notes have been released. These notes are more or less identical to the Korean patch notes that were posted last week, except without our less-than-desirable translation job. A few highlights:
Halls of Stone: Brann Bronzebeard has been getting into shape and now feels comfortable walking faster when escorted. Concussion Blow: The damage done by this ability has been reduced by 50%, but its threat generation will remain approximately the same. Violet Hold: The time between a boss being defeated and a new portal opening has been decreased. Season 8 has officially begun featuring all-new rewards! Check behind the cut below for the full Patch 3.3.2 patch notes.

Startrekonline Guide III How to choose your starship wepaon

– 2:43 am
Posted by: Justine

For many newbies in startrekonline, it always hard to distinguish the difference between much of those starship weapons. Now we will briefly introduce the weapon system introduce to you.

Weapon Types

Beam Arrays: 250′ arc, 8.3%, low sustained DPS (139 per hit, 111 dps @ mk4)
Dual Beams: 90′ arc, 8.3%, medium burst DPS (185 per hit, 145 dps @ mk4)
Turret: 360′ arc, 5%, low sustained DPS (62 per hit, 83 dps @ mk4)
Cannons: 180′ arc, 5%, medium sustained DPS (100 per hit, 133 dps @ mk4)
Dual Cannons: 45′ arc, 5%, high sustained DPS (139 per hit, 185 dps @ mk4)
Dual Heavy Cannons, 45′ arc, 5%, high burst DPS (222 per hit, 128 dps @ mk4)
Torpedoes: 90′ arc, very high burst DPS (weapon type has huge affect here)

Damage Types
Ships can have different resistances to different damage types. There also seems to be some other subtle side-effects to the different types:

Phaser: 10% Max Weapon Power resistance (reduces enemies outgoing damage)
Disruptor: 10% All Damage Resistance (increases enemies damage taken)
Plasma: DOT
Tetryon: (mk v+)

Photon: Less damage but faster fire rate
Quantum: More damage but slow fire rate
Plasma: medium damage with a chance to apply a DoT that ignores shields (decent against both unshielded and shielded targets). Plasma’s version of High Yield fires a Plasma Ball that can be targetted and shot down.
Transphasic – low damage, but much more of it penetrates shields (very good against shielded targets, mediocre against unshielded targets). Comes with standard Boff powers.
Chroniton – can slow down enemies. (nice for making enemies’ weakened shields harder to protect, or as a rear launcher to use when running away). Comes with standard Boff powers.
Tricobalt – very high burst damage, and a short disable effect (stops target from using any powers for a moment). has a very long cooldown and doesn’t get modified by Boff powers.

After listing the weapons, what I want to emphsis is that, certain weapon can only be used in certain starships. For example, if you choose a cruiser, and it’s better for u to arm the Beam or Beam array and Torpedos. Because the cruiser is hard to maneuver, and if you arm a small arc weapon with it, you will find it diffcult for you to control. So when you have decided which starship and weapon you gonna use, do remember to upgrade your skills to coordinate. The effect will be apparent after you do all the setting as I have introuduced.

To be continued.

Gold farming Guide with WOW Patch 3.3 Part 2

Herbalists and Skinners don’t have a great deal of change, apart from the Arctic Fur and Borean Leather.

The following is what will lose value after the patch:
Saronite and Titanium: Alchemists, I personally wouldn’t delve into this market. Too many will be doing it and prices will crash on Titanium so fast that even if you sell everything on patch day.
Arctic Fur: It will now be tradeable from a vendor for a pretty meager cost.
Crusader Orbs: In this last patch Crusader Orbs where the main crafting ingredient for all the new crafts. Likewise 3.3 gets its own version: Primordial Saronite. People eager to own the newer, better gear, and as such the older gear and older mats for this gear will decrease in value.

Guild Wars fans to raise money for Haiti

February 8, 2010 – 4:57 am
Posted by: Haguenau

Gaming World Events, a fan-created organization, will be holding their first ever Guild Wars in-game event tomorrow: Gamers Giving Back to Haiti.

The fans behind Gaming Gamers Giving Back to Haiti will happen in Lion’s Arch International District 1, from 10AM – 4PM PST. The six hour event will offer quite a few in-game prizes of items and gold for participants.

The group has set a fundraising goal of (of course) $1,337.00, but a look at their Red Cross donation page shows that they are already approaching the $700.00 mark. Gamers are known to be a generous bunch, so maybe Gaming World Events can reach their goal twice: once before the event and once after. You can donate via the donation page, and read more about the event on their Facebook page or the forum announcement.

We at Massively join the community in thanking Gaming World Events for organizing the event, and all of the players for their support.

Star Trek Online reaches one million accounts

February 8, 2010 – 4:49 am

If it’s not too dated, you can feel free to do the Dr. Evil voice as you read the announcement in your head. Star Trek Online has reached one million registered accounts, an impressive milestone for any game. The announcement follows in the vein of Cryptic’s announcement that players had created over one million characters in Champions Online, which was also an impressive milestone… well, until you started to do the math and ask why they were counting the number of characters created rather than players.

There are similar questions to be asked about the latest Star Trek Online announcement, if you’re the suspicious type. In short, we don’t know the criteria that is being used to get the figure being thrown around. One million accounts could refer to open beta and head start accounts, or it could refer to everyone registered on the forums, even if they’ve long since stopped posting. It’s an odd metric to use.

Still, it’s a sign of how strong the IP of Star Trek still is after all these years, and as one of the few major launches planned for the year it’s bound to attract quite a bit of attention. Congratulations to Cryptic, and here’s hoping that those million accounts stick with the game after a few months.
