Is Wotlk excluding new players down the line?

I had my girlfriend start an account in late June this year and she’s been playing pretty casual since then.
When Wotlk came out last week she immediately got the CE (mostly because of Frosty tbh) and her priest is level 62 right now. She has missed heaps of content from vanilla WoW and no doubt will she lose even more by not doing Karazhan (one of the best instances in the game imo) and the other dungeons in TBC.
Now we’ve reached the third expansion and I have troubles seeing fresh new players to MMO in general (like my gf) buy the battlechest + WotlK. As this expansion progresses, the so-called casuals will be more of a hardcore group and the ones calling themselves hardcore now will be … well.. even more so.
I guess this is the inevitable outcome of an MMO after a few years. EverQuest II is regarded by some people to be a really good MMO but it seems to have so many expansions I wouldn’t know where to start if I would like to start play it.
This is not a QQ or “Blizzard is going down” post, just a thought while we’re all raging about first level 80s, hardcore raiding and all that jazz.
