Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.
Han Solo, “A New Hope”
Combat all throughout the galaxy can get a little hairy sometimes, so here are some tips to making your targeting controls just the way you like them:
Here is a look at all your new targeting options:

Things to keep in mind when you look at the targeting controls listed above:
- These are default controls for new characters only.
- These new combat targeting features are NOT automatically “turned-on”. If you have an existing character, you will have to map out your new targeting controls.
- If you have any other custom targeting options selected (such as the “Actions can be fired from the toolbar” option turned off), please be sure to check your targeting options. You can find a guide to “Understanding your Keymapping Options” by clicking here.
Here are descriptions and tips for some of the key combat targeting controls:
Look-At Target: Blue Brackets

The set of blue targeting brackets you are used to in combat is called your “Look-At” target.
Basically, any creature, NPC or item that you mouse-over on is your Look-At. Your Look-At target is in blue brackets.
- If you have no Intended Target, your “Look-At” target will become your “Intended Target”.
- The slash command /target now sets your Intended Target and also your Look-At target
Intended Target: Green Brackets

You will notice a set of green targeting brackets when you log in. Any NPC, creature, player, etc. in these green brackets is your Intended Target.
You can use the Z key to switch your Intended Targets at any time. The green brackets will cycle through all available targets from near to far.
Additional Intended Target Tips:
- In combat, if Auto-Targeting and Auto-Aim is turned off you must be aiming in the direction of your target.
- The X key or middle mouse button, by default, immediately switches your intended target to what’s under your cursor. If you have re-mapped your X key or middle mouse button for anything else, you will have to assign a new key to set your Intended Target.
- If your Intended Target and your Look-At target are the same, your target will be in both blue and green brackets.
- Emotes:
- Emotes will favor your Intended Target brackets when doing targeted emotes.
- If the Intended Target is a NPC or object (i.e. a Nalargon) your emote will favor the look at target.
- Using the /tip command also favors your Intended Target.
