Two weeks into the WAR

Two weeks passed since the launch of Warhammer Online, and they have been two awesome weeks. Having sold five hundred thousads copies in the first two days, topping the sales charts of the launch week both in the US and in Europe, the game had the solid launch it needed in it’s quest for success.
At the moment, having played my swordmaster up to level 27, I can easily say that the game it’s living up to it’s hype fully. It’s depth is unparaleled for a game that’s just released, and the variety of things to do has no rivals since the genre saw it’s birth with Ultima Online. I can’t count the times in which i have been conflicted on what to do of my evening, given the wide variety of options, and i can’t remember even one single moment of boredom.

Even the crafting (I can tell it while sitting on top of my 152 talisman making), criticized by many (that probably didn’t even tried it extensively) for being simple, fullfills it’s purpose in an extremely classy way, lowering the bar of the farming and proving always useful, instead of the pointless chase with dropped items you see in other games.

Is it a perfect game? Of course not. No game is perfect, expecially not at launch, but the level of polish is very high, and Mythic has already proven to be hard at work to make it even better.

The scope of the game is truly immense. Even the dungeons are probably the biggest i ever saw in a MMORPG. Gunbad, just to make an example, easily dwarfs everything the competition has to offer.
Mark Jacobs already told Ten Ton Hammer that we will probably see some of the cut content back in less than four months (and all of it will be reinstated as free updates). Just imagine the game with three capitals per side with the same size and scoper of Altdorf and the Inevitable city…

And the ones that, like me, know well that the Warhammer World goes much beyond what is included in Warhammer Online, already know that the game has full potential to become the largest, most varied and epic MMORPG world ever created.

If you still didn’t buy it, my personal advice is to give it a try, even if you aren’t particularly interested in PvP. Realm vs Realm is very different from the usual guild vs guild setup of many other games. I normally don’t like PvP that much, but the war in Warhammer Online is, as it was in Dark Age of Camelot, compelling and fun even for the ones that aren’t PvP fanatics. Not to mention the fact that the PvE content is extremely solid.

PS: Someone mailed me asking if this has become a Warhammer Online-only blog. It hasn’t, dont worry. Tokyo Game Show is incoming, and I’m ready to cover it. Personally, I can’t wait.
