WAR: World First Karl Franz Kill, The Emperor Is Slain!

On Sunday, Karak Eight Peaks, the Third Realm alliance (comprised of the guilds Fracture, XXI Grams, Bloodline, Eclipse team, Legio Sicarius, Shorties) managed to deliver the final blow to the Empire for the first time in the world. They brought down Emperor Karl Franz, sending him to a cage in the Inevitable City.

According to reports, it was a narrow victory: only 2 minutes before the 1-hour countdown timer was over did they manage to clear both pq’s (Bright Wizard College pq and Grand Theogonist Volkmar). The whole event supposedly took more than 14 hours.

Congratulations are in order for winning what couldn’t have been an easy fight. To merely gain access to Karl Franz, not only do Destruction players have to open up and defeat the player defenders of Altdorf, they also have to defeat the Grand Theogonist Volkmar and the Supreme Patriarch Thyrus Gormann of the Bright Wizard College. Only then do they gain access to the Imperial Palace, where the currently hardest PvE encounter in Warhammer Online takes place.

On Sunday, April 5th, history was made. A stalwart gathering of skilled Destruction players on the European Karak Eight Peaks server carved a bloody path through every Tier 4 zone, successfully locked them down, and stormed Altdorf all the way to the palace. Their epic battle with Karl Franz ended in victory, making it the very first King defeat in the history of WAR!

We’d like to congratulate the players of Karak Eight Peaks and commend the victors on their efforts! The guilds who led this historical event were Bloodline, Eclipse Team, Fracture, Legio Sicarius, Shorties, and XXI Grams. Congratulations to you all! “Destruction on K8P captured Karl?!?” This was all I heard at Mythic on Monday. What an achievement and almost exactly on schedule with our predictions! We have been watching and waiting for it to happen, and are very excited that the players finally pulled it off.

We learned a lot from watching you all beat the encounter (as people scurry off to find out why Karl was able to be CC’ed) and I am sure you will find the last stage of his encounter a little more challenging next time when you can’t slow him down quite so much…
