MTN Dew teams up with World of Warcraft

Mountain Dew has dropped the unnecessary letters from its name, so it will take less time to write about it in Trade Channel. The Pepsi Co. soda and World of Warcraft (WoW) are in a cross-promotional campaign. There are two new Mountain Dew flavors on the market, each associated with a WoW faction, Red for Hoard and Blue for Alliance. The Red and Blue sodas resemble Health and Mana potions, respectively. Red proclaims it has a “blast of citrus cherry.” Blue has a “punch of wild fruit flavor.” They have the caffeine you expect from Mountain Dew, to help with late night gaming, but with extra flavoring and sugar. They can be found in all local markets.
At the Mountain Dew Game Fuel website, a drawing takes place every fifteen minutes for WoW and Mountain Dew related merchandise. Clothes, computer accessories, or even an Alienware laptop can be won. To participate in a drawing, you simply enter the number of tokens you wish to submit, each giving you a chance to win. Tokens can be earned in various ways; you receive 100 tokens for registering with the site, 25 tokens each day you sign in, 50 for recruiting a friend to the site.

Additionally, you can receive a non-combat pet in World of Warcraft. In order to receive this, you must first have an active WoW account. Next, you must merge this account with Battle.net. Battle.net is owned by Blizzard, and grants access to Blizzard Entertainment games, websites, and online services, all with a single e-mail address and password. Merging the account with Battle.net will replace your current game password, and you will now log into WoW with the password and email address you entered in the Battle.net registration.
Once the WoW account and Battle.net are merged, go back to the Mountain Dew Game Fuel site, and click the icon in the bottom right to receive your free Battle Bot. This non-combat companion will arrive in the mailbox of all of your characters, coming from Jepetto Joybuzz, who runs the toy store, Wonderworks, in Dalaran. Additionally, any character you create between now and when the promotion ends in August, will also receive a Battle Bot.
You are not done with the Mountain Dew Game Fuel site yet. Everyday you can go back and click on the Battle Bot icon to receive Fuel for your pet. You have a choice between Blue or Red, and it does not matter if you are Alliance or Hoard, or what you have chosen previous days. All of your characters will receive a stack of five fuel of the chosen color. However, you must pick them up from the mailbox that day, they do not carry over.
While it is a non-combat pet, the Battle Bot lives up to its name by battling other bots of its kind. There is a transparent storage unit in the back of the bot, but once you right-click on the fuel in your bag and then left-click your companion, it will glow with the color of the fuel. It will then fight any opposite colored bot nearby. Once the promotion is over, fuel can no longer be obtained, and once used up, the Battle Bot will not battle. For now, it is fun to watch them go at it while waiting for a raid to start. Also, this does count towards the 75 non-combat pet achievement. It is worth merging your account with Battle.net if reaching this achievement is one of your goals.

Appearance wise, the Battle Bot resembles the Clockwork Rocket Bot. This bot was a present during Winterveil 2007, and has not been available since. There is a Feat of Strength for having received it. The Clockwork Rocket Bot also battled other bots of its kind, although without the need of Mountain Dew to fuel it. The skin was changed and the glowing effect was added to create the Battle Bot. The Clockwork Rocket Bot and the Battle Bot do not appear to fight each other.
There is a TV ad (below) worth checking out, if you skip the commercials on television.
