Warhammer Online faces big changes down the road

If you missed the news earlier this week, Electronic Arts took Mythic and Bioware, and put them beneath a single umbrella. Gamers were certain to expect some changes to be made, and while we don’t know the full scope yet of what this change means for us, there is some new information.
Yesterday, an Executive Producer letter was posted by Jeff Hickman for Mythic’s Warhammer Online. Calling the change a time for “progress,” Jeff has laid out the five key goals that Mythic has for Warhammer Online:
- Addressing concerns related to crowd control and area-of-effect abilities.
- Continuing to improve client and server stability and performance.
- Strengthening and improving the Tier 4 experience.
- Improving server population distribution, both in terms of overall population and Realm balance.
- Improving itemization and the overall distribution of “carrots” (fun rewards) throughout the game.
The letter goes on in great detail about some of the plans for these changes. Included in this is some changes to city sieges that will bring RvR to every stage of a city assault. Some of the planned changes are:
- Two additional objectives will spawn in Stage Two of the city siege.
- Defenders will still be able to defend their city during the Pillage Phase
- Successful defenders can not only reduce the time required to defeat the King, but eventually reset the city campaign.
Jeff also states that there is a serious look into the server population, and that Mythic is considering some “fairly radical approaches.” What exactly that means, we can’t be sure. Hopefully nothing like the Lake Wintergrasp changes in World of Warcraft.
