Confirmed: Rainwater And Moogles In New FFXI Expansion

f you thought that the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV meant the end of seven-year-old Final Fantasy XI, you’re wrong. Like any needy seven-year-old, the MMO just keeps getting more stuff, this time with an expansion chapter that aims to satisfy a desire at the core of every Final
 Fantasy fan-more Moogles.

The expansion chapter, titled “A Moogle Kupo d’Etat-Evil in Small Doses,” will be available for pre-purchase on July 5, 2009 for $9.99. The new chapter promises to forge ahead into emotional territory never before explored in an MMORPG storyline. Read on for a glimpse of what the traumatic tale has in store.

“It all started with an innocent drop of rainwater and a rickety, ramshackle Mog House desperately in need of repair. Little did anyone suspect that this would be the beginning of a harrowing nightmare unheard of in the annals of moogle-kind.”

Take a moment to soak in everything you’ve just read. Just in case you haven’t already been mentally transported into the little Moogle dwelling, let’s take a closer look at the title of the game. Following suit with other FFXI expansion titles, the title “Kupo d’Etat” is a play off the French phrase “coup d’etat.” Coup d’etat refers to a government being quickly overthrown by a small group of people in authoritative positions. In this case I guess we’re talking about “a group of small people” instead, and the government is apparently evil rainwater.

The new chapter comes from the brilliant mind of Masato Kato, who created FFXI’s first expansion pack Rise of the Zilart. Kato is also working on “A Shantotto Ascension-The Legend Torn, Her Empire Born,” the third and “final” expansion.

Only time will tell how “final” the third expansion will be. It’s already being rumored that the title for expansion four will be “Je Ne Sais Past Its Prime-A Game With No End, Is Sure To Downtrend.”
