Another approach to assaulting/defending fortresses.

As we all know, assaulting and defending fortresses is all about masses atm, the faction with the most members wins the fortress. I suggest, making it far more harder, and less tank&spank based. Starting with the gate, it’s to easy to get it down, it’s basically a 5 min fight against a brick wall.

To sort of add versatility, I suggest adding siege deployments sights. For example, you would be able to make a trebuchet, to lay siege on the main outer aetheric shell that covers the outside of a fortress, attempting to shatter it and gain acces through sky.

This is just a mere suggestion, things like battering rams can be added, or things like reinforced walls and aetheric fields, to make it harder for the opponents to get through.

I think this might get a whole new view on assaulting and defending fortresses, alongside with artifacts. Do know that this is legion based only

 

And a nice way to implement this could be through professions!

Like a trebuchet could be made out of several components and parts, which needs to be made by legion members, and delivered to a master craftsman npc, who will put it all together in the end, quality of the specific siegeweapon ranging on the materials spend on it.

 

For example a trebuchet could be made out of certain components:

 

- Reinforced Tecoma logs, to build up a frame.(tecoma log and iron plating?)

- Aetheric tempered Iron arm, to give it a swing :)    (Iron bar and quite a few high-grade aether crystals)

- Tikel reinforced thin leather projectile sack (tikel thread and thing leather)

- Iron counterweight (just a heavy chunk of iron, suppose you can figure what mats that require :)   )

- I’ve thought about this for a while, since this idea has been lingering about after my first fortress assault, but I guess you would require different projectiles to fire if you’re trying to puncture through the aetheric field, then you would trying to storm the gate. So I guess alchemy would need some designs added that make explosives for gates and aetheric EMP’s to get rid of that pesky aether field.

 

In that same manner, you could make defensive materials, like things that reinforce the aether field, increased equipment for the npc guards, or simple things.

Maybe even some sort of windblowers, that make flying near or over a fortress miserable, or even impossible.

 

Designs could be bought at each factions research center (dunno about you elyos, but we sure do have one) at a nasty price, raising as you’re getting to the next lvl of siege equipment. Might actually be a nice way to even add extra levels to the 3 lvls legions can have now, to get acces to these nice things.

 

This is just a farfetched idea atm, still needs to be thought over etc. etc. but I thought this would be a nice way to get crafting more involved into ‘the game, and get rid of this numbers>everything in a fortress fight.
